　　Jilin University (JLU) is a leading national university under the direct jurisdiction of China’s Ministry of Education with eight campuses in five districts. In the beginning decade of the new century, the university is committed to achieving the status as one of the leading institutions for higher education well known in China and around the world. While Distant Education College of Jilin University is attached to this university.
　　We InformationTechnologyTeachingCenter was founded on the background that the state encouraged the development of software industry, and that the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of distant education in JilinUniversity. Till now, our center has cultivated more than 1,000 graduates as software engineers, whose practical ability has obtained a great deal recognition and high praise. Currently there are 4,000 undergraduates majoring either in Software Engineering or in E-commerce. Through years, our center has simulated abundant experience in educating advanced IT professionals, forming a whole set of characterized teaching modes, teaching methods and management patterns.
　　In the InformationTechnologyTeachingCenter, there are 180 teachers from JilinUniversity and other groups, including 95 “double-technique” teachers with both the ability of teaching theory & practice and the ability in project development. It makes available the conditions of complementing certificate & diploma education and combination between production and education, which combines professional qualification certificate education with academic education. That is, the graduates can not only attain international software engineer certificate (or web engineer certificate), but also achieve the diploma of JilinUniversity, which will benefit the future employment of our graduates.
　　At present IT talents are needed in the development of all industries, especially in the high-tech-labor-intensive software industries. With this trend, our center aims at the specialized education, opening the major of Computer Software Technology (involving the Design and Development of PC Games) and E-Commerce.
　 There are two campuses in Information Technology Teaching Center of Distant Education College, JilinUniversity. Changchun campus is located in the Software District of Changchun Advanced and New Technology Industry Zone, and next to the Nanhu campus and Qianwei Campus of JilinUniversity. The center occupies an area of 100,000 square meters, with the constructions of 83,648 square meters, 17 multi-media teaching rooms, computer rooms 78, electronic experimental rooms 2, and more than 3,000 computers for use. The campus internet system is attached directly to the fiber cable of JilinUniversity, thus it makes available sharing the corresponding teaching resources. While Dalian campus, as a practice-training base, lies in Lvshun Economy Development Zone, by BohaiSea. It takes up 340,000 square meters, with the constructing project of 80,000 square meters (the designed construction area comes to 240,000 square meters.). Here, juniors and seniors will go about aimed practice trainings before employment, which creates much more opportunities for them to work in Japan, Dalian, Beijing, etc.
　 The center collaborated ATA corporation, a strategic partner of Microsoft Corporation, on establishing a most advanced software development practice training base domestically at Dalian campus. There students can acquire corresponding trainings for 27 positions in the field of software development, so that they can master a practical ability well.
　 Our school has become a strategic partner of ZhongGuanCun Software Association in Beijing. Thus there are at least 800 graduates entering the 3,000 companies at ZhongGuanCun every year.

College Characteristics:

A Most Competitive Majors for Employment: It is well accepted that “Choosing major is much more essential than college choice.”. Currently, information industry is a nationally-focused and strategic industry, getting a strong support from the government. The high-qualified IT brains are needed in the economy development, social construction, even in all industries. And lack of such brains will be a long-existing problem, from which the employment advantages of the major are obvious.
Focusing on Practical Ability; Conducting Diploma & Certificate Education: Combining professional qualification certificate courses with traditional undergraduate courses. Thus, the graduates can not only gain a college diploma, but also achieve corresponding professional qualification certificate, such as International Software Engineer.
Combining Production with Education: Through establishing software practice training base, we connect the college theoretical study with real operation, which enables the graduates to attain sufficient knowledge, and also a strong practical ability.
Using Advanced Teaching Materials and Teaching Methods: We use some teaching materials and teaching methods from Microsoft Corporation and the like, for professional training, so as to cultivate internationalized brains.
Complementing Humanized Management: Based on humanization, the center adopts semi-closed management mode, appointing full-time tutors to manage the study and living of the undergraduates.
“Zero-distance” from College Study to Employment: Through the “aimed, order-oriented” trainings in the practice training base, we train brains for software companies in Japan and at ZhongGuanCun. Therefore the majority of graduates can step into working positions directly.

Establishing X-oriented Training Classes

“Japan-oriented Software Training Class”: The students, whose results for college entrance exam come up to the acceptance line for ordinary undergraduate course, and who passed the entrance exam for the Distant Education College, Jilin University, through systematic theoretical study and practice trainings in Dalian campus, can go to work in Japan according to their results, and can also work in some Sino-Japan joint ventures after graduation.
“ZhongGuanCun-oriented Training Class”: The students, whose results for college entrance exam are above the acceptance line for independent undergraduate course, and who passed the entrance exam for the Distant Education College, Jilin University, through systematic theoretical study and practice trainings in Dalian campus, can enter the software companies at ZhongGuanCun in Beijing.
“Engineering Master oriented Class”: The students, whose results for college entrance exam come up to the acceptance line for ordinary undergraduate course, and who passed the entrance exam for the Distant Education College, Jilin University, through systematic theoretical study and practice trainings in Dalian campus, can enter such colleges for Engineering Master Degree as University of Science and Technology of China, Dalian University of Technology, and BeiHang Univeristy.

Employment Information Report

• The graduates of 2004 have been employed totally, among whom 28% have been working in Beijing, the average salary coming up to ￥2,000 per month.
• By September, 2005, the graduates of 2005 have got an employment rate of 93%.
• Currently, there are 400 seniors working in Japan, Shenzhen, Shanghai, etc. And the salary of the domestically employed students comes up to￥2000 per month.
